Even though they have set up the band correctly and enabled the required apps from which they want to receive notifications, the call and message notifications aren’t pushed to their band. What is wrong? Is the band broken? No. It’s a minor issue, and one of the following solutions should fix it. Let’s check the solutions for fixing Honor Band 5’s Call or Message notifications not working with Android and iPhone.
1. Restart
Let’s start with the basic troubleshooting tip, and that is to restart your devices. Yes, you need to restart both your Honor band and phone. To restart the band, activate the band and go to More > System. Tap on Restart.
2. Enable Notifications in the App
You must be aware that you need to enable the apps in the notification settings of the Health app for which you want to receive notifications. If the apps are enabled, and you are still not receiving notifications, follow the reverse method. That is, disable the apps and then enable them again. Doing so has fixed the notification issue on the Huawei band for many of its users. Just open the Health app and go to Notifications under your band. Then, turn off the toggle for the apps.
3. Disable Do Not Disturb Mode
Similar to phones, your band also comes with a Do Not Disturb (DND) mode of its own. If it is on for your band, you will not receive notifications on it. Honor Band 5 comes with a special feature, i.e., Do not Disturb when not wearing. If it is enabled, you will receive the notifications only when you are wearing the band. So, if the notifications do not appear when the band is not on your arm, that might be the reason. To fix it, open the Health app and go to Devices, followed by your band. Tap on Do not disturb. Disable all the options including schedule mode.
4. Grant Necessary Permission (Android)
If your band isn’t getting call notifications, you need to grant call logs permission on Android. To do so, follow these steps: Step 1: Open Settings on your phone and go to Apps. Step 2: Tap on Health under All apps. Then, tap on Permissions. Step 3: Grant Call logs permissions. Restart the phone and band.
5. Allow Health App to Run in Background (Android)
The new Android phones come with aggressive battery saving modes. While they help in conserving the battery, at times, they are also responsible for the erratic behavior of apps. In this case, the Health app not pushing notifications to the Honor Band. To fix that, you need to disable battery optimization for the Health app. For that, follow these steps: Step 1: Open Settings on your phone and go to Apps. Step 2: Tap on Health app under All apps. Tap on Battery. Step 3: Tap on Optimize battery usage. Pro Tip: Enable the setting for Allow background activity too. Step 4: Tap on the drop-down box at the top and select All. Step 5: Scroll down and disable optimization for the Health app. Android phones come with different settings to optimize the battery. On Samsung, you will find it by the name of Sleeping apps. You need to remove the Health app from the list, usually present under Settings > Battery > Advanced > Sleeping apps. Similarly, on Mi phones, you need to add the Health app to the autostart list. For that, go to Settings > Security > Permission > Autostart. Add Health app.
6. Enable Unlimited Data Usage (Android)
Similar to battery, you should grant permission to let the Health app use data in the background for optimum usage. For that, go to Settings > Apps > Health. Tap on Data usage or Mobile data. Enable the toggle next to Allow background data usage and Allow app while Data saver on.
7. Clear Cache (Android)
You need to clear the cache for the Huawei Health app to fix its issues. To do so, open Settings on your phone and go to Apps followed by Health. Tap on Storage followed by Clear cache.
8. Allow Notifications for Health App (iOS)
On iOS, you need to grant notification permission to the Health app. Only then the notifications will appear on your band. To do so, open Settings on your iPhone. Scroll down and tap on Huawei Health app. Tap on Notifications. First, enable the toggle next to Allow notifications. Then, turn on all the alerts and options like Sounds and Badges. Also, make sure Show Previews setting is set to Always.
9. Allow Individual App Notifications (iOS)
If you aren’t getting notifications from a certain app only, then you need to enable its notifications in settings. For instance, if WhatsApp notifications aren’t working, follow these steps: Step 1: Open Settings on your iPhone and go to Notifications. Step 2: Tap on WhatsApp. Enable all the notification settings, including Show Previews. It should be set to Always.
10. Turn on System Connections (iOS)
On iOS, another way to fix the notification issue for the Honor band is to enable the sharing of system connections. To do so, open Settings > Bluetooth. Tap on your band name and hit the i button. Turn on the toggle for Share system connections.
11. Unpair Band
Unpairing the band fixes many issues that arise in fitness bands. So, you should unpair the band from your phone. To do so, open the Health app and tap on Devices at the bottom. Tap on your band. Scroll down and tap on Unpair. Once unpaired, pair it back.
12. Update App

13. Reinstall App
You should also try uninstalling the app from your phone. That will not delete your data as long as it is synced with your account. So, uninstall the Health app from your phone and then install it again.
