But while the feature might not be available on stock iOS, of course, there’s an app for that. Tempo for iOS is an all-new video editor on the App Store that can speed up and slow down parts of a video with just a tap. So before we check out how the app works, have a look at what you can do with your videos using the app.
Tempo for iOS
If you want effects like these in your video, head over to the App Store and download Tempo Video Editor. The app is free to download and install, and it works great even with the iPhone 5. After you install and launch the app, it will give you the option to import an existing video or you can tap on the camera button to record one now. Advisory: I would recommend to first record the video on the stock camera app and then edit it using Tempo, as there are instances where the app does crash and you might lose the video altogether if the app crashes while recording. After you select a video, the app will give you the option to select the audio. The audio can be from your media library or you can select some presets from the app itself. The reason why you would want to select audio is because the slowing down and speeding up of the video will modulate the sound and it might sound like a Chip ‘n Dale cartoon. The video editor gives you 4 options in addition to the normal speed. The Fastest is 8X speed, Fast is 4X and Slow and Slowest are 3/4 and 1/2 times, respectively. So if you want to slow down or speed up a video, there’s only one marker and the entire video from that marker to the end will be slowed down or sped up. If you would like to just mark a part of the video as slow or fast, you need to select Normal speed for the rest of the video. If this seems confusing, try the app and then everything will make sense. After you have finalized the video, you can either save it to Camera roll or upload it on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and other similar services. However, the videos that you save using the app as a free user will have a small overlaying thumbnail. To get a video without the watermark, you will have to buy the pro version for $4.99. But if you don’t want to do that, sharing the videos with the watermark is not a deal breaker. Have a look at one random video created by me with the watermark (right below these screenshots).

So that was how you can edit the speed of videos using Tempo. Using a background song is always a nice idea – it gives a pleasant touch to the processed videos.
