Joining the new line of charging standards is the new Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+. Given that most of us are always on the run most of the time, it’s obvious that people would obviously go for a phone that charges faster. Qualcomm Quick Charge 4, announced in November 2016, aims to lessen the charging time even more and make the battery more efficient. Though Quick Charge 4 was more than welcome, the makers have gone ahead and revised it even further and came with the all new Quick Charge 4+ standard.
What is the New Quick Charge 4+ Standard?
The Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ is an upgraded version of the six-month-old Quick Charge 4. The Quick Charge 4, which went by the tagline of 5 for 5, promised 5 hours of battery life from just 5 minutes of charging along with better efficiency. Plus, it also lowers the charging temperature by about 5-degrees Celcius. Moving ahead of it, the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ has three distinct advantages over the older version.

The Upgrades
Dual Charge is not necessarily a new tech in Quick Charge, rather it has been pushed a few notches up so that it’s more powerful now. Dual Charge basically involves a second power management IC which divides the current coming into the device. This results in a lesser charge time and also a lower body temperature. The second improvement is the Intelligent Thermal Balancing. Aforesaid the Quick Charge 4 lowers the temperature associated with charging. This results in less power dissipation thus making way for optimized power delivery. And along with the above, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ will also highlight the Advanced Safety Features. These are essentially a set of protocols which monitors the temperature of both the device getting charged and the connector/charger, so as to avoid overheating and short circuit. The above three upgrades push the device to charge 15% faster and 40% more efficient compared to Quick Charge 4.
Which Devices Qualify
Not only smartphones, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ will also be available in a number of devices such as wall adapters, car chargers, USB hubs and power banks. The good news is that devices will also be compatible with the older versions of Quick Charge. In short, all the new devices will be backward compatible. When Qualcomm announced the Quick Charge 4 in November 2016, they had promised that the first compatible devices should start arriving by the first half of 2017. Though the world didn’t see the arrival of Quick Charge 4 compatible devices, it seems that it has jumped straight to the latest version. The ZTE Nubia Z17 announced in the first week of July 2017 with Snapdragon 835 SoC and 3200mAh battery is the first smartphone to feature the Quick Charge 4+.
