Why Do You Need to Create A Custom Template in Notion
With custom templates, You can easily replicate content combinations you use frequently in Notion. For example, let’s say you want to fill out the same form every day, asking you what you’re grateful for without re-creating it constantly. Or you want to generate the same to-do list at the start of every week. You can also build a custom finance tracker per your usages and reuse it every month. Notion offers you to create a custom template with the help of the template button. Let’s talk about how to find and use the Template button in Notion.
How to Create a Custom Template in Notion Using Template Button?
Here, I’m going to create two custom templates in Notion. As I mentioned, you can create a template from scratch or use the built-in ones, make necessary changes, and save it as a custom template for later use. I have imported the Weekly agenda template on my Notion page. I have changed the icon, added cover photo, relevant template details, and now it’s ready to use. I’m going to use the template every week, so it’s not practical to import the same template every time and make changes. Instead, I’m going to create a template out of it. Follow the steps below to create a custom template in Notion. Step 1: Import a relevant template from the template gallery and make necessary changes to it. Step 2: Create a new page in Notion and give it a relevant title. Step 3: Type ‘/template’ and Notion will allow you to create a custom template button. Step 4: The software will open the ‘Configure template button’ box. Step 5: First, add a relevant name for the template button. Step 6: Now, you need to add blocks that you want to duplicate wherever the button is clicked. Step 7: By default, it’s set as the To-Do button. Tap on the six-dot menu and remove it. Step 8: From the Notion sidebar, drag the create template to the template button. Step 9: Hit the ‘Close’ button, and now the template button is ready to use. You can drag and drop this button to any Notion page, and with just one click, you can create a custom template for you. I have created another template to keep track of finances every month. Following the steps above, you can create a template button for the monthly finance tracker and use it every month. You can create template buttons for normal tasks as well. I have seen Notion users using the to-do template button to create tasks quickly.
How to Edit or Delete Template Button
Notion gives the flexibility to change the template button name and content. At any point, you can make changes to it or even delete the template button. Hover the pointer above the template button, and you will see the little ‘Settings’ icon at the end of the template button. Tap on it, and it will open the pop-up box to change the template button name and blocks for it. You can also tap on the six-dot menu and delete the template button entirely. Don’t worry though, it will only delete the template button and won’t make any changes to the existing templates.
Use Notion Like a Pro
As I mentioned, templates take the Notion experience to the next level. You can use the built-in template and modify it and turn it into a template button as well. I have seen users creating another Notion template from scratch and turning it into the template button for frequent use. How are you going to use the template button in Notion?
