Of course, here we have shown anything and everything to help you both know all you need to know about your iPhone battery, as well as to show you how to get the most juice out of it. However, while these tips and apps can help your iPhone last the entire day, they don’t focus on its battery health and performance over time.
What Is Battery Health
The health of a battery, also known as its SOH (State of Health), is the current condition of a battery at any point in time when compared to its ideal conditions and is usually shown as a percentage. No matter which device they power, it is also a fact that batteries wear down over time, so their health percentage will never be 100% except for the first days the devices are used. This is specially true with devices like the iPhone, which in most cases remain on all day long. That said, battery health can be affected by many variables, like weather for example. Yet the most important one – and the one we can control – is the way the battery is charged. So let’s dive into a few very important tips on how to rightly charge your iPhone’s battery to preserve its health over time.
Charging a Brand New iPhone
Tip 1
The initial charge of a new iPhone is very important. To do it right, charge your new iPhone for at least 3 hours before using it for the first time. Don’t forget to use the included wall charger – not your computer’s USB port – to charge it this first time.
Tip 2
When your iPhone is fully charged, feel free to use it until until its battery is fully drained. Once it is, keep it off for at least 2 hours.
Tip 3
Fully charge your iPhone again without using it, and let it rest for around a couple of hours while it is fully charged before you start using it again.
Charging Your iPhone Every Day
Everyday charging of your iPhone is not as important as its first charge of course, but still affects its battery. Here is what I do on a day-to-day basis when it comes to charging my iPhone. Using these tips, all my previous iPhones have lasted for years and their batteries have remained at very healthy levels of charge.
Tip 1
Regardless of charging your iPhone during the day, always charge it every night. This helps keep its battery active on a constant basis.
Tip 2
Fully charge and drain your iPhone’s battery once every two or three months. In my opinion, this helps calibrate your battery indicator properly.
Tip 3
If you have to leave your iPhone in one place for a few hours/days, make sure it is a cool and dry place and that its battery is above 60 percent charged. Also, whenever charging your iPhone, make sure you do it in a cool location.
Tip 4
On the same line, try to avoid charging your iPhone while it is in its case, since it will make it hotter, which is not good for the battery at all. And that’s it. Be sure to put these tips into practice and rest assured that your iPhone’s battery will remain in good shape for years to come.
